Beer Marinated Chicken Wings: Cooking with Beer

As we’re headed into football playoff season, who isn’t thinking about wings and beer? How about wings marinated in beer? We made some with Common Good’s The Sociable Pilsner.

The marinate time takes between 2 and 6 hours. Cooking time is approximately 40 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of chicken wings
  • 1 teaspoon of salt (5 ml)
  • 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper (0.5 ml)
  • 1 can or 473 ml (12 oz) of Common Good’s The Sociable Pilsner
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme (5 ml) or 2 crushed garlic cloves or hot sauce (optional)

Directions

  1. Cut off and discard wings tips (or use later for chicken stock)
  2. Cut each chicken in half at joint
  3. Place wings in shallow dish (we used a square glass baking pan), sprinkle with salt, pepper (and thyme or garlic – if you choose hot sauce you’ll add it near the end)
  4. Pour beer over wing and stir. Cover and refrigerate for 2 to 6 hours
  5. Preheat oven to 375 degree F
  6. Line a baking pan with parchment paper
  7. Drain wings and arrange on pan in a single layer
  8. Bake 40 minutes or until wings are cooked through and brown on all sides
  9. If you like you wings spicy, brush on a hot sauce like Frank’s Hot sauce 5 minutes before they are done and save some for tossing in after

About the Beer

Common Good’s Sociable Pilsner is brewed in the style of traditional German Pilsners, with a citrusy note contributed by Citra hops. It is fruity and round on the palate, with moderate carbonation. Initial cereal grain flavours are followed by ripe pear and grapefruit.

4.7% abv. – 26 IBU.
